Great White Shark off St. Pete Beach

A 600-pound Great White Shark pinged off the St. Pete Beach coast a few days ago.

OCEARCH, a global non-profit that provides data to scientists about marine life, is tracking the shark, named "Rose." According to their on-line tracker, Rose is 10 feet, 5 inches long, and weighs an estimated 600 pounds. She was first tagged in Nova Scotia in October, 2020. Data shows she's been swimming up and down the East Coast until recently, when she made her way past the Florida Keys, and came into the Gulf of Mexico.

"Rose" isn't the only Great White out there. Last week, a shark named "Scot" also pinged, according to OCEARCH. His was farther south, off the coast of Sanibel Island.
