MMA fighter allegedly ambushes competitor outside Florida steakhouse

UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal is facing a felony battery charge after he was filmed attacking fellow MMA fighter Colby Covington outside a South Florida restaurant on Monday.

According to a Miami Beach police, Masvidal was charged with felony battery in connection with the attack that took place outside of Papi Steak around 11:30 p.m.

Covington was filmed leaving the restaurant late Monday when he was ambushed by Masvidal, who punched him with a closed fist twice in the face, fracturing his tooth.

Covington told police that Masvidal was wearing “a hoodie raised over his head and sweatpants," and that he was able to identify Masvidal by the sound of his voice and by looking at the upper half of his face.

Witness Adam Weiss tells Local 10 News "the one guy clocked him three or four times in the face,"

The two MMA fighters previously fought at UFC 272 on March 5th in Las Vegas.
