The race for Mayor of Boynton Beach is a crowded one, but only one of the four candidates has gotten back to us for an interview.
Minister and former felon Bernard Wright is NOT that candidate, but his live videos on Facebook include one in which he stated that current Commissioner and Mayoral candidate Ty Penserga wants to make Boynton Beach a quote "gay city."
And a video from last week in which he yells at people at a pro-Trump gathering off Woolbright Road, telling them they are a "disgrace to the human race" and they "got the wrong agenda." Wright, in the video, says all of the other candidates are Trump supporters.
We didn't ask Penserga if he's a Trump supporter, since this is a municipal election. But he DID address Wright's comments about his open homosexuality.
"I will say that what he said is reprehensible and it's bigoted. But it's also just embarrassing. What we do know about that gentleman is, he likes to put on a show. It's a way to get attention and hopefully get more votes for him."
Penserga is a high school chemistry teacher at Suncoast High, his alma mater, and says his political agenda is about economics. He also shares his thoughts on the direction of the city, including the Boynton Beach Mall property, which has fallen on hard times.
Candidate Cindy Falco-Di Corrado made headlines when she was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest during the county's mask order last year, when she refused to wear one at a bagel shop.
She was convicted, but a judge last week withheld adjudication, and she faces no jail time.
Personal freedoms are a key platform for Falco-Di Corrado.
Golene Gordon chairs the city's Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board. She writes about her plans to "take back the city" and a "better Boynton Beach on her campaign site.
Election Day is Tuesday, March 8 in Boynton Beach and the other 18 municipalities holding elections.
