New High Schools, Technical College, On the Way in Hillsborough

Several new workforce development initiatives are on the way in the Hillsborough County school district. Superintendent Addison Davis says two new high schools and a new technical college will be created in the coming months. One will be devoted to the construction industry, while the other will prepare students in all aspects of the health care field. Both will be geared toward students in grades 9 thru 12, and both will open in the fall of 2023.

"This is unlike anything that has occurred in this region," Davis said. "It's a totally innovative approach to help our students. The two high schools will be completely devoted to preparing students in the medical field and also in the construction field."

The Hillsborough Construction Academy will be located at the Bowers/Whitley Academy, while the "medical magnet" Hillsborough Medical Academy will be at the D.W. Waters Center. Phase three of Davis' initiative will create a medical technical college at the Brewster Center on North Tampa St.
