Honda Classic Security Preparations Underway In Palm Beach Gardens

Less than two weeks from now, events surrounding the Honda Classic get underway in Palm Beach Gardens and Police Chief Clint Shannon says his agency is ready to keep the community safe during this high profile tournament that brings visitors in from all over the country.

"We've had our security preparations going on for several months now to prepare for this. In the past year, there's been limited attendance but this year it looks like it's going to be wide open and we're expecting a big crowd. It should be a great event."

The chief says there are several aspects to this.

"It's everything from making sure the parking and the parking lots are not only well organized but secure. The transportation and ride-share into the events and certainly what's coming into the events is important to us. And then once we're in the events our presence is important to make sure that everyone feels safe."

The Honda moves back to February, teeing off a string of Florida tournaments.

Last year it was played in late March, which kept a lot of the bigger names in golf away from the event.

The 2022 Honda Classic gets going at PGA National with the Pro-Am on Monday, February 21st.

The first round of tournament play will be on Thursday, February 24.

Among those signing on to compete are Wellington's own Brooks Koepka, as well as Rickie Fowler and last year's Honda Classic winner Matt Jones.
