The recent high profile death of a former Miss USA is shedding light on the growing problem of mental illness in society.

Cheslie Kryst committed suicide and it's been reported that the 30-year old woman suffered from depression, which she kept hidden.

The Kryst story is not alone. We've heard stories here in Florida and elsewhere about members of law enforcement who have killed themselves in recent weeks.

Patrice Schroeder with the 211 Helpline of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast says these stories are becoming all too common.

"I do want people to understand that we need to start engaging in a conversation of mental health and emotional health and wellness as well."

She says that out of about 275 calls per day, an average of ten are crisis calls.

211 service is available in most areas of the state and where it's not, people can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
