Two Newly Appointed Broward Commissioner Are Sworn-In Today

A new day dawns in Broward as two newly appointed commissioners are sworn-in. Jared Moskowitz has big plans for the county, suggesting it changes its name. He says the county is named in honor of former Florida Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward who no longer reflects the ideals of people living here. Moskowitz says most visitors also name the city they go to instead of the county. He thinks a name change could make Broward more competitive. He also wants the mayor to be elected, not voted on by his or her peers. Moskowitz is taking over the seat held by Barbara Sharief who resigned when she entered the congressional race against the late Alcee Hastings. Torey Alston was sworn-in to fill the seat of Commissioner Dale Holness who also unsuccessfully ran for Hastings seat.
