Sheriff Says This Man Tried to Rob an Undercover Deputy at Gunpoint

TAMPA -- Hillsborough deputies have identified the suspect that is still at large, in the shooting involving undercover deputies outside the Westfield Brandon Mall Monday.

The Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Jaycob Riley is facing charges of armed robbery, attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, and felon in possession of a firearm. The sheriff says an undercover detective was trying to buy firearms, and that the suspects attempted to rob the detective at gunpoint. That caused a team of other deputies to move in for the deputy's safety. One suspect fired several shots toward deputies, who did not return fire. 19-year-old Jordan Garcia, the other suspect, is already in custody. He faces a charge of armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and dealing in stolen property.
