Palm Beach County's head of schools is recovering from COVID-19 after a trip last week to Tallahassee.

Superintendent Michael Burke is conducting his meetings remotely, but expects to be back in the office on Wednesday, ahead of the scheduled School Board meeting.

He and board member Alexandria Ayala were at the state Capitol during the first week of the Legislative session, but Burke says he has no idea where he got the virus. He claims he is vaccinated and boosted but it wasn't enough for omicron. Still, the superintendent believes that's why his case is mild.

Ayala has not had any symptoms, but plans to get tested.

At least 1,500 school district employees have tested positive since the school year began, including more than 300 last week alone.
