A Homestead mother was arrested on a charge of felony child abuse after she locked her child in a large dog cage because he was acting “aggressive.”
Police arrested 42-year-old Adriana Alvarado Gutierrez at her Homestead home on Monday after an investigator from the Department of Children and Families reported the punishment.
During their investigation, Gutierrez admitted that she locked her son in the cage twice over the weekend, telling police she did it because her son “acts aggressively toward her and himself.”
The child’s father told police he did not agree with the punishment.
According to police, the boy had bruises on his back and arms, as did Gutierrez, who told investigators her injuries were caused by her son kicking her.
Gutierrez told police the child is on medication after being diagnosed with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder.
She was charged with one count of felony child abuse.
A judge put Gutierrez on house arrest and issued her to stay away from her son, who is now with his father.
