The City of Riviera Beach is postponing its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade that was slated for next week due to a spike in COVID cases.

The Florida Department of Health reports there were more than 24 thousand cases confirmed in Palm Beach County during the week ending December 30th, the most recently weekly numbers available. That amounts to a countywide positivity rate of 30 point 6 percent.

The January 15th parade will likely happen in February, which is Black History Month and if cases don't decline by then the City says it could happen around the Juneteenth holiday.

Riviera Beach City Council members made the decision to postpone the parade during Wednesday's meeting.
