FORT LAUDERDALE -- Florida is experiencing its share of the delays and cancellations happening with flights across the nation.
Delta, United and other airlines are blaming staffing problems on the COVID Omicron variant. The web site Flight Aware lists close to 200 cancellations for the state of Florida Friday. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (KFLL) is leading the pack with 52. Orladno, Tampa, Fort Myers, and Miami are among other airports reporting double-digit cancellations.
16-year-old Vaughn Fowler spent several hours Thursday and Friday, waiting to get out of Tampa International Airport to see family in Charleston. He tells News Channel 8 he "was ready for the flight, and they booked it an hour later, (then) an hour later... I was waiting... I had opportunities (with friends and family) that I missed."
Saturday, Christmas Day, only looks slightly better at this point, with about 75 cancellations so far statewide.
