Omicron detected in Altamonte Springs

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been detected in the wastewater of the Altamonte Springs area of central Florida after samples of the wastewater was tested. This is the first time the omicron variant has been detected in the area, however he says the Delta variant remains more dominant.

What does this detection mean? According to city manager Frank Martz, some number of people in the Altamonte Springs service area are infected with the Omicron variant. The city manager says they share these test results with local hospitals and communities to help them prepare for whats to come.

The Omicron varian was first detected in Florida on or around December 7th 2021 in St. Lucie county.
