The man who helped police put away a South Florida woman for trying to put a hit out on her husband has died.

40-year old Mohamed Shihadeh was found dead in his Sebring apartment, but a cause is not known.

Shihadeh was a former lover of Dalia Dippolito, who made national news when video of her arrest in 2009 was featured on the TV show "Cops."

Detectives first investigated the case after Shihadeh called police, saying the Boynton Beach woman was being hurt by her husband and that she told him she would rather be dead or have her husband killed.

The man was asked to repeat those comments later at her trial.

An undercover officer pretended to be a hitman and video shows her agreeing to pay him seven grand.

Dippolito was convicted in 2017 of soliciting first-degree murder in and sentenced to 16 years in prison. That followed an initial trial that ended in a hung jury.
