A condo fire started this morning inside a unit owned by a former NBA player.

Jayson Williams, who played the for the 76'ers and the Nets, says he was not home at the time of the fire, which resulted in about 20 people having to be evacuated from the building in Delray Beach.

A number of elderly people had to be helped out by firefighters, including a woman in a wheelchair.

Resident Dick McQuade says it was a startling situation.

"There was smoke. I've never seen smoke in the hallway before and then a fireman came up the stairway and said 'Come. You've gotta come down.'"

There were no injuries.

Williams says he had some wiring work done recently in his condo, but authorities have not yet announced a cause for the fire.
