Palm Beach County leaders gave a COVID-19 update late Thursday, with Mayor Dave Kerner noting that free testing sites have been open at the Gardens Branch Library in Palm Beach Gardens, the Mid-County Senior Center in Lake Worth, the South County Civic Center in West Delray Beach, the FAU Tech Runway in Boca Raton and Lakeside Medical Center in Belle Glade.

He said a new site was opening on Friday at Gaines Park in West Palm Beach. All of these sites are open seven days a week, but they will be closed for Labor Day.

Free walk-up COVID vaccination sites are operating Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Health Care District's clinic in Lantana and the Lakeside Medical Center's parking lot in Belle Glade.

Vaccinations will also be offered on Saturday at the Wayne Barton Study Center in Boca Raton. No appointments are necessary.

Officials talked about continued concerns over local hospitalizations, despite statewide numbers coming down. Also, pleas were made for people to get vaccinated in order to protect children under 12 who are not yet eligible for the shots.
