Welch and Blackmon for Mayor on November ballot in St Pete

ST. PETERSBURG -- The names are set for city elections November 2nd.

Former county commissioner Kenneth Welch will face councilman Robert Blackmon for the mayor's office.

A self-described "Democratic Socialist" made the ballot for a city council seat.

Richie Floyd, a 30-year-old who moved to St. Petersburg in 2018, acquired the largest vote total in District 8 to succeed term-limited Amy Foster. The Pinellas Democratic Socialists of America played a major role in his campaign, urging followers on their Facebook page to "knock the most doors and take one step closer to a socialist St. Pete." In the general election, he'll face former City Council member Jeff Danner.

In other city council races... In District 1, Copley Gerdes will face Bobbie Shay Lee in November. Tom Mullins will face Lisette Hanewicz in District 4. Several other districts had only two candidates each and will appear on the November ballot. In District 2, incumbent Brandi Gabbard will face Kyle Hall. In District 6, incumbent Gina Driscoll will face Mhariel Sommers.
