The key take-away from Friday's COVID-19 update by officials at AdventHealth Central Florida: if you haven't gotten a shot- please put it on the top of your to-do list. The hospital system's chief clinical officer says if you want to get vaccinated- it's a piece of cake-
"Please get vaccinated this weekend," Dr. Neil Finkler says. "Vaccines are available at CentraCare and at most retail pharmacies around town. Almost anywhere you get a prescription filled or go grocery shopping you can get a vaccine."
Dr. Finkler says more than 90% of the more than 1000 COVID patients being treated at the system's hospitals are unvaccinated. He calls that fact 'remarkable.'
"None of these patients thought they would get the virus but the Delta variant has proven to be so highly contagious that even the young and the healthy including pregnant patients are starting to fill up our hospitals."
Dr. Finkler says the vaccine is effective in preventing more serious illness and the more people who get vaccinated will prevent the current resurrgence in case from getting even worse. If you think you may have the virus, get a rapid test at a clinic. Only go to the emergency room if you're experiencing severe symptoms such as chest pain or difficulty breathing.
