The Surfside tragedy has officials in Palm Beach County rethinking their own policies for building inspection and recertification.

Delray Beach Vice Mayor Shirley Johnson is asking for a complete inventory of buildings within the city, saying she doesn't want Delray to be the next Surfside. This as code enforcement officers are doing daily inspections at the Linton Ridge Condo complex, where work got underway last week.

Poles are holding up some walkways at some of the buildings and residents say they've been complaining about structural issues for months.

Johnson is disappointed that city building officials are not currently required to routinely check on the condition of multi-level buildings.

In Boca Raton, Mayor Scott Singer says officials are preparing to introduce a recertification ordinance in the next few weeks and Palm Beach County Commissioners are expected to discuss possible recertification requirements for buildings across the county at next week's meeting.
