More than 50 Florida law officers head to Texas to help secure the border

Governor Ron DeSantis was in Pensacola Friday sending out the 'cavalry' to Texas from Florida to help secure the border as the surge of illegal immigrants continues.

"So you're going to have over 50 personnel from FDLE, Fish and Wildlife and Highway Patrol."

Governor DeSantis said Texas and Arizona reached out for help and Florida is answering the call.

"Hopefully I'll be able to get out there at some point and wish them well when they're on the ground," the governor said, "but at a minimum I wanted to come here and say 'thank you for what you're doing- the people of Florida support what you're doing.'"

The governor has called the situation on the border a national security crisis with "people from the terrorist watch list, known sex offenders and a flood of fentanyl" crossing the border.

The Florida personnel and their mission critical equipment should be on the job starting Monday. Their duties back in Florida will be covered by local sheriff's departments.
