LISTEN: The Pipeline for Fuel Truck Drivers is in Trouble, Too

Listen to an interview with Brad Ball, president of Roadmaster:

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Even though fuel is flowing through the Colonial Pipeline again, another problem could keep it from getting to gas stations... not enough drivers.

Brad Ball, president of the St Petersburg based "Roadmaster" chain of driving schools, says as many as a quarter of all fuel tankers may stay parked because there's no one to get behind the wheel. He says the COVID-19 pandemic triggered a wave of driver retirements last year.

Ball says his firm is moving as quickly as it can to get students through the pipeline, with plans to open three more driving schools by the end of the year.

Ball says drivers who earn their CDL Class A licenses and go on to get endorsements for tankers and hazardous materials can work their way up to make as much as $100 thousand per year.

Roadmaster operates Florida schools in Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando.
