Journey Tribute Performs At South Florida Fair

One of Florida's largest fairs is back and in its normal size. The South Florida Fair is underway in West Palm Beach.

Organizers held a "mini" version in January, due to COVID concerns, but this one is more like the regular fair you've come to know, which features indoor and outdoor activities.

What it doesn't feature is a mask mandate.

"Masks are really not mandatory, but we're strongly encouraging people to go ahead and wear their masks because there's people. It's just another layer of protection."

Fair President Vicki Chorus says the decision was made because she knew a lot of folks would not follow a mask mandate and didn't want people to expect seeing everyone walking around with masks on.

Vicki says that most people did follow the mask policy during the January "Mini" Fair, but that was before COVID-19 vaccines were so readily available.

'We know there's the faction that really thinks that you should always wear them and then there's the other group that after they've been vaccinated, they feel like they're protected so they don't really need to continue."

It's the first time in the South Florida Fair's 109 year history that organizers are holding a second fair in the same year and this is the first fair in May.

Senior Day is coming up on Friday May 14, with a Beatles tribute, and seniors ages 60 and up get in for just $5. They can get in free during the first hour of the fair that day from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m..

Next Tuesday May 18 will be $2 Tuesday. Vicki says they weren't going to do that this year, but decided to make it just the one Tuesday. Admission on that day will be just $2, rides will cost $2 and each of the food vendors will have a menu item for $2.

As usual, there is entertainment everyday at the fair, including a Journey tribute band tonight.

There are also several other rock tribute bands playing throughout the run of the fair, in place of the usual rock tribute band competition. Chorus says that will return next January.

Be sure to check out the exhibits inside the Expo Center, matching the fair's theme "An Earthly A-Fair."

That includes exhibits and interactive activities relating to the earth and conservation like NOAA’s virtual presentations on Hurricane-Mania, Dynamic Seas and Earth from Space, and environmental movies throughout the day.
