TB Lightning & FL Panthers Eyeing January 13th Start Date

Tampa Bay Lightning v Florida Panthers

(New York, NY) -- The Panthers and Lightning could be returning in just over a month. The NHL and NHL Players' Association are eyeing a January 13th start to the season.

ESPN reports the two sides are moving forward with plans for a 52 or 56 game regular-season. The league hopes to finalize a plan by the end of the week, which will include temporary divisional realignment and coronavirus protocols.

Owners and players have been at odds over the money side of it with both bringing several options to the table, but the report states terms of the current collective bargaining agreement will remain in place for now. Owners told the players they are also looking into additional cash flow options to start the season similar to the NBA, which is reportedly giving 30-million-dollars to each team as the season begins with few or no fans.
