Florida Boaters Reminded To Watch Out for Manatees After 500 Die In 2020

Marine units for law enforcement agencies across the state are reminding boaters to watch out for manatees.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says that of the more than 500 manatees that have died so far this year in Florida waters, nearly 80 were killed as a result of interactions with watercraft.

Officers with Tequesta Police Department's marine unit spent the weekend along northern Palm Beach County's Intracoastal waterway, watching for boaters who may have been putting the mammals in danger.

The village is one of nine municipalities partnering with the county's Department of Environmental Resource Management in the efforts.
