University Of Miami Launches COVID-19 Outreach Program For Minorities

Thanks to a 1-million-dollar award from the National Institutes of Health, the University of Miami is leading a statewide COVID-19 awareness campaign to get minorities to participate in vaccine trials and clear up crazy rumors about the shot. U-M Chief of Internal Medicine, Dr. Olveen Carrasquillo, says minorities have been hesitantt to participate in trials and research shows coronavirus hospital and death rates for Latinos, African and Native Americans are 2-to-3 times higher than other groups. He says the vaccine must be tested on the highest risk groups in order for it to work.
