Tampa Teen Charged in "Blue-Check" Twitter "Bitcoin" Hack

TAMPA -- A teenager faces 30 felony charges in connection with a recent hack that forced Twitter to lock down many celebrity accounts on July 15th.

The FBI and Justice Department located the 17-year-old suspect, then turned the case over to the Hillsborough State Attorney's office for prosecution. Graham Ivan Clark is accused of using "blue check" celebrity accounts belonging to Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Elon Musk and others, and asking people to send Bitcoin to accounts he controlled, picking up $100,000 from unsuspecting Twitter users in a single day.

Warren said the crimes were committed using celebrities' names, but the victims were 'regular Americans.' "This massive fraud was orchestrated right here in our backyard, and we will not stand for that,” Warren said.

The reason the Feds turned the case over to Florida prosecutors is that state law allows minors to be prosecuted as adults in financial fraud cases.
