St. Petersburg Mandates Face Masks for Workers

ST. PETERSBURG -- Starting Friday afternoon at 5:00, any worker at a business in St. Petersburg who faces the public will be required to wear a face mask.

Mayor Rick Kriseman's order follows several cases of COVID-19 at local businesses, including local bars which have been forced to shut down.

Kriseman says there will be "common sense" exceptions. But he insists officers won't hand out warnings. "Consider this your warning", Kriseman said. Fines are a possibility.

The mayor says the recent outbreak in his city is happening because of "community spread", saying that "young adults (are) letting their guard down."

Kriseman says he has consulted with the city attorney about requiring customers to wear masks, but he won't have that ready until at least next week.
