Curfew in Tampa, 100 National Guardsmen in City

TAMPA -- The city of Tampa is imposing a curfew and Governor DeSantis is sending 100 national guardsmen to the city, in response to violence during protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Mayor Jane Castor announced the curfew from 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice, effective Sunday evening.

Just a few minutes later, the governor's communications director announced that Ron DeSantis is sending the Guard to respond to unrest in the city.

Meantime, Hillsborough sheriff Chad Chronister says a curfew WILL NOT be imposed on unincorporated areas of Hillsborough County.

Last night 48 people were arrested in Hillsborough County and the city of Tampa for violence that occurred during protests over Floyd's death. Dozens of businesses and patrol cars were attacked and three law enforcement officers suffered minor injuries.
