State Representative Apologizes For Using A Gay Slur

Florida State Rep. Al Jacquet

A state representative is apologizing for using a gay slur during a Facebook Live broadcast on his personal page.

Palm Beach County Democrat Al Jacquet used the term "batty boy", which is a derogatory term for homosexuals, used in the Caribbean.

He was referencing Lake Worth Beach Commissioner Omari Hardy, who is challenging Jacquet for his state House seat in the 2020 primary.

Hardy pointed out on Twitter that while he isn't gay, he was offended for the LGBTQ community.

Jacquet issued an apology in a statement yesterday that "In the heat of the moment" he said something he should not have said.

(The slur comes up around the 58 minute mark.)

The Palm Beach County Human Rights Council is calling for the legislature to censure Jacquet or remove him from office.
