Florida will be the first state to have a statewide strategy to prevent mass shootings under a plan unveiled Wednesday by Governor Ron DeSantis at Disney's Swann and Dolphin Resort.
"What the Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Strategy will do," Governor DeSantis said, "is provide a process where those indicators can be identified and then action, if appropriate, can be taken."
By the governor's side was Ryan Petty who lost his 14 year old daughter Alaina in the Parkland school shooting. Petty said threat assessment is not a new concept.
"The Secret Service has been using threat assessment to protect our elected leaders like the president for years," Petty said, "and I think if it's good enough for our elected leaders, it's good enough for our children."
Beginning this summer law officers around the state will begin undergoing behavioral threat assessment training.
