Automated Pharmacy Machines On Display In Tallahassee

Popular prescription medicines on displa

Prescription drug dispensing machines were on display at the state Capitol Tuesday.

Palm Beach County State Rep. Matt Willhite and Senator Travis Hutson of North Florida are pushing companion bills that would allow pharmacies to use the automated machines to dispense medication after hours.

Even with the big name drug stores having 24-hour locations, Willhite says this technology is needed.

"There aren't that many 24 hour pharmacies. Not to mention, if you had to get your whole family out of the car, or you're not feeling real well because you just left the emergency room. You don't have to interact with a lot of people or get them sick. You can come right up to this machine and you're not involving anybody else."

He says you'd interact with a live pharmacist on a computer screen.

The House bill has one more step before a floor vote, while the Senate bill has two more committees to work through.
