Shelter Declares "Cold Night"

The Coalition for the Homeless won't turn anyone away tonight when near-freezing temperatures descend on Central Florida.

Tracie Morris from the Coalition says they have declared this a "Cold Night," something they do anytime temperatures are expected to dip below 40-degrees.

Morris says that on most nights they have around 500 guests in their shelters and tonight they expect about 100 more. She says people who arrive at the shelter tonight will get a hot meal and breakfast when they leave in the morning.

Morris says they will also provide usual services to people who are looking to find a stable, permanent housing.

Morris says cold nights like this are a burden, costing the Coalition more in overtime and food.
