Florida Supreme Court Sides With Governor On Felon Voting Rights Issue

Voters Head To Polls As Early Voting Starts In Florida

The Florida Supreme Court ruled in favor of Governor Ron DeSantis on how the law restoring voting rights to felons is implemented.

Voters approved Amendment 4 in 2018, but the state Legislature passed a law requiring offenders to pay fees, fines and restitution before they would be able to vote again.

The state's highest court says the law's definition of "all terms of sentence" includes all legal financial obligations imposed at sentencing.

Thursday’s ruling siding with the governor came as the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals prepares to hear arguments Jan. 28 in the separate federal lawsuit.
