Boating safety should be top of mind if you are heading out on the water for some fun in the sun this Columbus Day Weekend. Coast Guard Lt. Brandon Earhart says remember all the common sense safety tips--- wear a life jacket, designate a driver and file a float plan. He says also remember channel 16 on your radio is the emergency distress channel, use that first, before your cell phone, to call for help. Because so much traffic is expected this holiday weekend, a 15-knot speed limit goes into effect from Turkey Point north to the Julia Tuttle Causeway and from Elliot Key west to the shoreline starting at noon tomorrow until 2 Monday morning.
