Woman Accused Of Starving Child, As Part Of Potty Training

A Riviera Beach woman is accused of tying up a toddler and not allowing her to eat while potty training.

Police arrested 31-year old Takeia Ann Burns on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Investigators say the three year old girl weighed just 22 pounds and had sores on her arms.

Doctors at St. Mary's Medical Center found bruises on her thighs, indicating that she had been restrained.

Authorities also found what appeared to be belt marks on her back and doctors say the child suffered from several injuries, including bleeding on the brain.

Witnesses say Burns would leave the girl in a soiled diaper as punishment for not picking up the potty training. The girl would also sometimes eat out of the trash, according to the police report.

Burns' relationship with the child was redacted from the report.
