The chairman of the Florida Republican Party is postponing an immigration listening tour.
State Senator Joe Gruters, who co-sponsored the so-called "sanctuary cities ban," was planning to travel the state next Monday, Aug. 19 to hear from local officials on immigration issues.
He now blames the nationwide rhetoric and emotions around the issue that are running too high for the need to put off the tour.
The decision came after a gunman killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas and reportedly told police he was targeting Mexicans.
Just last week, it was announced that the tour had added a stop in Miami.
