Islanders Hand Lightning Second Straight Loss

The New York Islanders (40-30-9) defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning (45-28-6) 6-1 on Thursday evening in Elmont, New York.

The game was the 1000th game for Lightning team captain Steven Stamkos. Anthony Cirelli, Brandon Hagel and Erik Cernak were all held out of the game and listed as day-to-day because of injuries. In addition, Tanner Jeannot and Pat Maroon both left the game in the second period with undisclosed injuries.

Nikita Kucherov scored the only goal of the game for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Playing in the second game of a back-to-back, goaltender Brian Elliott went 36-for-42 in net for the loss.

The Lightning now head to Ottawa to play the Senators on Saturday. Puck drop from Ottawa is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Saturday night.
