Lightning Fall In Montreal For Second Straight Loss

The Montreal Canadiens (28-37-6) defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning (42-24-6) 3-2 on Tuesday evening in Montreal. The loss leaves the Lightning three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for second place in the Atlantic Divsion.

Montreal took a 2-0 lead in the first period before Brayden Point got the Lightning on the board with a power play goal at the 8:58 mark of the second. Late in the second Mike Matheson scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal for Montreal to make it 3-1.

Pat Maroon scored at the 14:58 mark of the third period to make it 3-2 but that would be as close as the Lightning would get. Andrei Vasilevskiy went 17-for-20 in net in the losing effort for Tampa Bay.

The Lightning will continue their four game road trip when they go to Ottawa to play the Senators on Thursday night. Puck drop from Ottawa is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Thursday.
