Ondrej Palat, Blake Coleman & Brayden Point each scored, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 20 saves for his 5th shutout of the season as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the visiting Dallas Stars 3-0 on Thursday night at Amalie Arena.
The Lightning were able to get on the board first, after some nifty work from Palat.
The Tampa Bay winger was able to pick the pocket of Dallas defenseman Jamie Oleksiak and quickly snap a shot past Stars goalie Jake Oettinger at the 14:41 mark of the first to give the Bolts a 1-0 lead. Palat now has points in seven straight games.
Neither team scored in the 2nd period, but the Stars definitely were the stronger side outshooting the Lightning 12-2 in the middle stanza.
Tampa Bay was able to extend their lead in the 3rd, on one of the most exciting plays in sports.
Coleman was taken down on a shorthanded breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot for his efforts.
The Bolts forward raced down on Oettinger & snapped one over the glove to put Tampa Bay up 2-0 and bring the Amalie faithful to their feet.
Point added an empty-netter with 1:21 left to seal the deal for the Lightning.
Oettinger made 25 saves in defeat.
