Lightning Set Franchise Record With 11th Straight Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning (40-15-5) defeated the Colorado Avalanche (33-18-7) 4-3 in overtime to set a new franchise record with their 11th consecutive victory.

The Avalanche got the scoring started in this game as Andre Burakvosky scored on the power play at the 4:49 of the first period. The Lightning answered in the second period - first it was Alex Killorn at the 4:54 mark of the second period, then Cameron Gauce added a goal sixteen seconds later to take the lead for Tampa Bay. Steven Stamkos added a goal at the 13:43 mark to take a 3-1 advantage.

Colorado would not go down without a fight, as Nathan MacKinnon scored at the 18:26 mark to pull within 3-2. Then the Avalanche was able to tie the game 3-3 at the 12:43 mark of the third period thanks to a goal from Valeri Nichushkin, which would be the score heading into overtime. In the overtime period, it was NIkita Kucherov who broke free for a beautiful goal that lifted Tampa Bay to a 4-3 victory, their 11th consecutive victory

Curtis McElhinney went 24-for-27 in net to pick up the win for Tampa Bay, while Pavel Francouz took the loss in net for Colorado as he made 23 saves on 27 shots against.

The Lightning now look to make it twelve in a row as they head to Las Vegas on Thursday night to battle the Golden Knights. Puck drop from Nevada is scheduled for 10 PM - pregame coverage begins at 9:30 PM on News Radio WFLA.
