Lightning Fall To Capitals In Overtime

The Tampa Bay Lightning (12-8-3) fell to the Washington Capitals (18-4-5) 4-3 in overtime on Friday evening.

The Lightning got the scoring started in this game, as Brayden Point scored on a power play late in the first period and MIkhail Sergachev scored early in the second period to take a 2-0 lead. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored to pull within 2-1, but Alex Killorn scored with just over a minute to go in the second period to give the Bolts a two-goal lead of 3-1 going into the final frame.

The Capitals were able to come up with an answer in the final frame. Jakob Vrana scored early in the frame to pull within 3-2, then Alex Ovechkin came through with a goal at the 11:36 mark to tie the game 3-3. That would remain the score, thanks in large part to Andrei Vasilevskiy coming up with some huge stops, to force overtime. In overtime Dmitry Orlov came through with the game winner at 3:07 to go to give the Capitals the second point in this contest.

Andrei Vasilevskiy went 31-for-35 in net for the Lightning in the losing effort, while Braden Holtby got the win with a 27-for-30 performance in net for the Capitals. The Lightning head back to Tampa as they will play host to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM - pregame coverage begins at 6 PM on News Radio WFLA.
