Lightning Blow Lead Late And Fall In Overtime To Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes fell behind in the first two periods, but found a way to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning after three periods taking a 4-3 win in overtime over the Bolts.

Jaccob Slavin scored for Carolina at 1:53 of overtime as the Hurricanes improved to 3-0, for only the second time in franchise history, overcoming third-period deficits and winning after regulation in each.

Carolina won its opener over Montreal in a shootout on Thursday night, then beat Washington in overtime on Saturday night.

Dougie Hamilton, Brett Pesce and Erik Haula also scored for Carolina, and the Hurricanes held the Lightning to just two shots on goal after the first period. Petr Mrazek only had to make 10 saves for Carolina which left many Bolts fans confused by the lack of offensive fire power.

Tyler Johnson, Kevin Shattenkirk and Steven Stamkos scored in the first period for Tampa Bay, as Bolts back up goaltender Curtis McElhinney, who helped the Hurricanes reach the Eastern Conference final last season, made 40 saves.

The Lightning drop its second straight game to open a six-game trip and will attempt to get back to their winning ways on Thursday night in Toronto.
