Lightning Knock Off Penguins 5-4

The Tampa Bay Lightning (40-11-4) knocked off the Pittsburgh Penguins (28-20-7) 5-4 on Saturday night at Amalie Arena.

Sidney Crosby set a Pittsburgh record for the most games played by a Penguin as they battled the Bolts on a Saturday night in Florida. Pittsburgh struck first in the game, when Garrett Wilson scored at the 13:36 mark of the first. The Lightning had an answer in the period though, as Yanni Gourde and Erik Cernak both scored to give the Bolts a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.

In the second period, Anthony Cirelli scored his fourth shorthanded goal to lift Tampa Bay's lead to 3-1 before Pittsburgh began to push back. Goals from Jared McCann and Bryan Rust tied it as the period progressed, and this game would be decided in the third. After Tyler Johnson gave the home team the lead back at the 4:54 mark of the third, J.T. Miller scored what would prove to be the game winner at the 14:03 mark. A little over a minute later Tanner Pearson scored for the Penguins to make it a one goal game, but that was as close as the Penguins could get.

Andrei Vasilevskiy continued the trend of making some brilliant saves, finishing the game with 28 saves in 32 shots to get the win. Casey DeSmith took the loss for the Penguins, going 29-for-34 in net. The Lightning are right back in action on Sunday night in the second game of a back-to-back as they battle the Panthers in Sunrise. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 PM - pregame coverage begins at 5:30 on News Radio WFLA .
