FAA Computer Outage Delays, Grounds Flights Across the Country

Just what the airline industry - and travelers - need... Another outage that is grounding flights across the country.

An issue with the FAA's NOTAMS (Notice to Air Missions) system is to blame for the problem.

"THE FAA is experiencing an outage that is impacting the update of NOTAMS. All flights are unable to be released at this time," the FAA said in a statement.

A notice regarding the outage is posted on Southwest's website.

"We are closely monitoring a data issue with FAA systems which may impact the start of operations today on Jan 11, 2023. Please check your flight status in the Southwest app or website to watch for any flight status changes. If your flight status changes substantially we will message the day of travel contact listed on your reservation by their preferred contact method."

Tampa International Airport also released information about the issue.
