One Florida homeowner was left shocked after seeing what turned out to be a monitor lizard peeping through his front porch window. The Apopka man shared a video showing the massive reptile, considered an invasive species, climbing up his window screen.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Nile monitors are not native to Florida. They are considered an invasive species due to their impacts on native wildlife. The species was added to Florida’s Prohibited species list. Researchers believe populations of Nile monitors in Florida stem from intentional and unintentional releases from animals in captivity.
