Jack Harris Celebrates 50th Anniversary On-Air

Jack Harris is one of the most popular and most recognized media personality in Tampa Bay and the radio legend himself celebrates 50 years on-air today.

Jack Harris started on 970 WFLA on September 10, 1970, and has been a staple at the station for over five decades, even though he left for brief periods but spent most of his time doing mornings on WFLA.

Jack’s radio career began just out of high school in Logan, West Virginia . He spent a decade minus service time at WAJR in Morgantown, W. Va., and came to the sunny Tampa Bay Area in 1970. He left for a year in 1974 to work at WRC and WKYS in Washington, D.C. Jack was on the original broadcast team for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was with The Tampa Bay Bandits, was voice of the USF Basketball Program and the Tampa Bay Rowdies

Jack was also the voice of the Tampa International Airport for years and the radio play-by-play voice for the Tampa Bay Storm arena football team and continues his work with the Outback Bowl which comes to Tampa every year. Jack was recently inducted into the Tampa Bay Sports Hall of Fame.

Jack also hosted "The Mayors Hour" for 22 years for the City of Tampa. The show was done monthly and addressed topics: that involved community, environment, sports, and local charitable organizations.

He has television experience as the voice of The Jerry Lewis Telethon for eight years (Jack's Kids), Gasparilla and Festival of States Parade Coverage, The Buccaneer Coach's Show for five years and the Noon Show, Pulse Plus on Channel 13 for nearly six years, and the host of "Harris and Company" weekdays on WFLA-TV, Channel 8. Currently, Jack hosts AM Tampa Bay on WFLA in Tampa as well as offering his voice to various charity events around the Bay area.

Jack has had an incredible career and continues to broadcast weekdays on Newsradio WFLA on AM Tampa Bay from 5-9 AM.
