Virtual Reality Could Reduce Labor Pains

Women in labor are using virtual reality headsets as a distraction from the pain. According to the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, VR is “being used during medical procedures and has been shown to be a valid, non-pharmacologic method to treat pain and anxiety.”

There have been approximately 900 clinical trials using virtual reality to combat pain and anxiety tech developers share with BBC. Cedars-Sinai patients in Los Angeles gave VR a shot while in labor and found that it works.

“The pain was really bad. At that point, I was willing to do anything,” said patient Aviva Lahmany to the Wall Street Journal. She continued, “[VR] takes you out of that hospital room.” “I was able to actually breathe.”
