The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly planning to place a franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts, which will pay him a fully guaranteed $15 million, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday (February 23).
"The #Falcons are planning to franchise tag standout TE Kyle Pitts, sources say, keeping their playmaker in the fold on a 1-year, fully guaranteed deal worth more than $15M. The hope is to work out a long-term deal rather than the tag. The two sides have until July to do it," Rapoport wrote on his X account.
Pitts, 25, who was selected by the Falcons at No. 4 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, the highest a tight end has ever been selected in NFL history, is coming off the best season of his five-year NFL career, recording a career-high 88 receptions and five touchdowns, as well as 928 receiving yards, his highest total since his rookie season and was selected as a second-team All-Pro.
The Falcons also have a new coaching staff following the firing of Raheem Morris and hiring of Kevin Stefanski earlier in the offseason.
"Kyle Pitts had a breakout season in 2025, and the new coaching staff and front office doesn’t want a productive young player walking out the door," Rapoport wrote on his X account.
