Blue Jays Stay Atop AL East With Win Over Rays

The Toronto Blue Jays (92-68) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (77-83) 4-2 on Friday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto. With the win, the Blue Jays stayed tied atop the AL East standings with the Yankees with the tiebreaker in hand and just two games to go in the regular season.

Junior Caminero hit hit 45th homer in the second to tie the game 1-1 before Jonathan Aranda homered to give the Rays a 2-1 lead. The Blue Jays answered in the bottom of the second to tie the game 2-2. Then in the fifth inning Nathan Lukes hit a two-run homer to give the Blue Jays a 4-2 lead, which would prove to be the final score.

Adrian Houser (8-5, 3.31) took the loss allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two.

The Rays will look to bounce back and even the series at a game apiece when they meet in the middle game on Saturday afternoon.
