The Boston Red Sox (84-70) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (75-79) 11-7 on Friday night at Steinbrenner Field. With the loss, the Rays have been eliminated from postseason contention.
The Rays built a 3-2 lead after three innings before the Red Sox took a 4-3 lead with two-runs in the seventh. Boston then erupted with seven runs in the eighth inning to take control of this game.
The Rays will now look to even the final series at Steinbrenner Field when they meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night.
